24 Solar Terms: Spring Equinox - First Day of Spring Facts


The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms which are determined by the changes in the sun's position through the 12 signs of the zodiac during the year. Although they were first used in China, such practice is now also followed in many other parts of the world.

Created thousands of years ago to guide agricultural production in China, the solar terms also reflect China's rich history through the seasonal festivals, special foods, cultural ceremonies, family gatherings and even healthy living tips that correspond with each solar term.


Spring Equinox Definition

The spring equinox is the phenomenon in which the plane of the Earth's equator passes through the center of the Sun it is generally considered to be the beginning of the season of spring, and it later sets out the foundations for the whole year.

Spring is reknowned as the most delightful season of the year as it comes after the chilly winter, breathing in soothing changes to the climate for all of us & heralding in a fresh new beginning for life all around us in nature. However, many of us do still wonder, when exactly does the season of spring actually takes place?

The first day of spring is said to take place from the first day of the spring equinox, which generally occurs around the 20th  of March every year. 

This period actually begins from March 21st and goes on until June 21st , which is known as the June solstice. The period after the 21st of June is said to be the summer period which continues on until September.

The equinox is celebrated around the world by people who are actually and factually aware of it. In fact, there is a great number of people who specifically wait for this particular day in order to witness the changes in daily life, which is said to contain an equal amount of daylight and night.
